Evaluation Vlog:

Part 1, Research:

Source and select vlogging videos of your choice:

Research Vloggers Source and select vlogging videos of your choice. Select at least 3 and discuss them: Examine and discuss the style of the vlogs. Use these questions to probe an understanding of 'what' the vloggers are doing and 'how' they are doing it:

Part 1: research

  • Is the vlogger stood, sat, walking around?

  • What sort of recording device are they using? Camera, phone?

  • Are they recording in a studio based environment?

  • Are they using lighting effects to enhance the visual aspect?

  • Are they using different audio recording tools other than the camera mic?

  • Do they use image or other videos and lay their voice-over on top?

  • Do they have titles at the beginning?

  • Do they have music throughout? At all? Or at specific parts?

Erik Voss who is part of, New Rockstar’s is a YouTube channel where they breakdown videos to do with movies and shows like Marvel and Dc related stuff. The way the videos are recorded/Vlogged are part of the New Rockstar’s, they start talking to the camera, with a script they’ve memorised (I believe it looks scripted). They add in transitions with images or clips of whatever movie and show they are speaking about so that the viewer knows what’s being said and explained. The use blue screen background behind them so that its clear for the audience to see the person speaking in the video in front of them. An overlay of music is used in their videos to make the video so that the viewer and audience doesn't get bored.

depending on the type of video and how much stuff has to be covered in terms of breaking down information, the video usually lasts for at least 8 to 15 minutes.

John Campea:

John Campea is a youtuber who does discussions about the film and tv industry, the way he does this is through a podcast with a microphone set up in front of him and web cam/ camera so that his face is recorded when speaking. an editing technique he uses is blurring out the background so that the only thing that is focused is his face when hes speaking in front of the camera/ webcam. he uses graphics in his videos like the name of his channel "John Campea" and Sub text graphics to do with the topic he is speaking about.

Will Smith:

Will Smith is a Youtuber who creates vlogs to do with his everyday life as an actor when he isn't working. in his videos he uses a HD camera to record himself when talking while there's background music used in order to avoid any just background noise but also to feel his videos are fun and energetic. at parts in the video when he is speaking to the camera, transitions and graphics are used when he is speaking about something specific or when there's a funny moment in the video so that it makes the video eye catching and creative.

Part 2: Prepare

Start and Process:

Before I started filming my vlog, I wanted to explore and make sure that i would be getting the right equipment so that it would be in the right requirement state. I decided to purchase a USB microphone and a stand for my Mobile Device/Tablet. the first reason I decided to purchase a microphone is so that when I'm speaking, i am heard clear and loud and there is no distracting sound coming from the background and the second reason for purchasing a stand to hold my mobile device was so that i could put it on an angle where i was able to record and i was seen properly.

Now i was done with the equipment part of my vlogging, I proceeded and started working on my script. for my script i had to write everything in chronological order so that I didn't start mixing up what i was saying or start jumping to parts where i wasn't suppose to start talking about yet. i also in the script added a shot list so that I knew what is/ was going to be added to the video so that it can be seen. there were times where I had to add changes to the script and that was because I needed to not so much but enough for me to talk about whatever it is that has to be said. I also felt like this was the most hardest part of preparing to start recording my vlog because i had to make sure i had everything included about my assignments

Other than the script, i started using index cards as a starter for myself rather than reading off a screen (that was actually the first idea, using a teleprompter but later changed my mind)

and that was because it was then quick and reliable for me

Part 3: Production part 1

So now that i was done with the script, i started to finally record my vlog. at the start i had messed up a couple of times due to me forgetting what to say but as I mentioned previously when speaking about index cards, I used them as a guide for myself to remind me what i need to say as a starter or as a quick guide if there were going to be following points i was going to make in the video. in the middle of recording i knew that I couldn't show my face all the time and that I needed something to make my video more interesting and visual. therefore I decided I would also screen record off my laptop. the way I decided I would record my laptop screen is by using a software called OBS and it gave me the opportunity to not only record my screen but also audio when I'm speaking so i could talk over about my work or whatever part I had to speak about. another way i was able to make my video visual was by adding text in and that was for whenever there were parts that had images/evidence of my work so that whenever someone watches my video, they would be able to pause and read. Adding images was also one of the choices i made because like i said, i wanted to make my video visual and boring or plain with me in front of a camera speaking.

Editing Process:

in the editing i started to put all of my sequences of clips together in order to make my video, you can see that the pink bars represent text or images to show that i've added assets to make my video visual and more understanding.. the blue bars are the videos i've recorded and have put them together in order to make the vlog.

An extra thing i added in was copyright free music and that was musicbed.com.

music bed is a website where i was able to use copyright free music for the background in my videos so that i didnt copyright claim and also to just make my video interesting rather than hearing just my voice and a plain background.

Problems i faced during recording was the change of camera. and that was because at one point one of the devices stopped working which then made pick a different device to record on in order to carry on my recording. a second problem i faced was video buffering and that was depending on how high my video was recording on, so the higher recording i did, it looked like it would effect the way i edit and publish my vlog.

In conclusion to end my reflection, i feel like this has to be one of the hardest work I've achieved and i am really proud of it. at first i was really nervous about the editing side of my vlog and not so much of recording (the recording part i knew eventually ill get better by remembering my lines) , reason being is because i thought i had forgotten everything about adobe premiere pro. But it just hit me out of nowhere, i just remembered what i had to do in terms of editing . And i used secondary research research to help myself out with any problems I was facing. an example for this is, i had problems with the audio level while i was editing my vlog, so I found a 5 minute short video to help on how to fix the audio levels and make sure the audio is at the right volume when listening and watching through. Another type of research which was again, secondary and that was questions to do with how i was able to fix my microphone level for OBS (which was the software i used to record my screen) and the way i got my answer was Forums because in forums, whatever question i had to ask, everyone would answer depending on my problem.
